Being deeply rooted in dermatology enables us to be responsive to the needs of this community. Joel E. Bernstein, M.D.
Executive Chairman
Joel E. Bernstein, M.D. is the founder and Executive Chairman of Elorac. Before starting Elorac, Dr. Bernstein was the founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of GenDerm Corporation, a pharmaceutical company that was acquired by Medicis Pharmaceutical Corporation in 1997. Previously, Dr. Bernstein was head of dermatopharmacology at Northwestern University Medical School and the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. Dr. Bernstein has also held senior scientific positions at Abbott Laboratories and Schering-Plough Corporation. He has authored more than 125 scientific publications and holds over 150 patents. Dr. Bernstein received a B.A. from Carleton College and an M.D. from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, where he received the Roche Award for ranking first in his class. He completed specialty-training programs in both dermatology and clinical pharmacology at the University of Chicago. Dr. Bernstein is a past president of the University of Chicago Medical and Biological Alumni Association. In 1988, he was chosen as Illinois high-tech entrepreneur of the year. Dr. Bernstein was also the founder and non-executive chairman of Sirius Laboratories, Inc., a dermatologic products company acquired by DUSA Pharmaceuticals in 2006.
Jeffrey Bernstein, Ph.D.
President & Chief Executive Officer
Jeffrey Bernstein, Ph.D., CFA is the President & Chief Executive Officer of Elorac, Inc. He has over 10 years experience at entrepreneurial pharmaceutical companies in executive and board positions, notably as a director of Sirius Laboratories and as Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and a director of Winston Laboratories. He crafted the original business plan of Elorac and provided strategic counsel on business development opportunities. Prior to entering the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Bernstein was an assistant professor of economics and public policy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received a B.A. in economics summa cum laude from Amherst College and a Ph.D. in business economics from Harvard University.
Scott B. Phillips, M.D.
Senior Vice President, Scientific Affairs
Scott B. Phillips, M.D. is Senior Vice President, Scientific Affairs. Previously Director of Drug Discovery at GenDerm Corporation and Senior Vice President, Scientific Affairs at Winston Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Phillips has 23 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. In addition, he has been Chief of the Clinical Investigations Unit at Harvard Medical School and Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Medicine at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He received a B.A. in biology from Cornell University and an M.D. from Harvard University.

Keymours Soltani, M.D.
Keyoumars Soltani, M.D. is currently Professor of Medicine and Director, Skin Surgery Clinic at The University of Chicago Medical Center and previously was Chairman of the Section of Dermatology at the University of Chicago. Dr. Keyoumars Soltani is an expert in surgery for dermatological conditions, including laser surgery and Mohs micrographic surgery. He specializes in the treatment of skin cancers, graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and blistering conditions. Dr. Soltani’s research interests at the University of Chicago include the immunopathology of dermatological diseases. Dr. Soltani is Board Certified in Dermatology, Dermatopathology and Dermatological Immunology.
Robert A. Yolles, J.D.
Robert A. Yolles, J.D. is a Director of Elorac and a retired partner of the international law firm Jones Day. While a partner, he served as the chair of the Firm’s domestic and international finance practices and, previously, co-chair of the Firm’s corporate practice. He received a B.A. and J.D. from Northwestern University.
David Whitney, M.D.
David Whitney, M.D. is a Director of Elorac and has had a private dermatology practice in suburban Chicago since 1987. Prior to this he was Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine and Director of the Dermatology Clinic at the University of Chicago. Dr. Whitney was a dermatology resident at the University of Chicago, and served as Chief Resident from 1983-1984. He is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology as well as a number of other dermatology organizations. Dr. Whitney was President of the University of Chicago Medical and Biological Alumni Association from 2004-2006 and is currently a member of the Visiting Committee To The Division of Biological Sciences and The Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago. Dr. Whitney received a B.A. from Rice University, and an M.D. and M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.
